CAMPS FOR PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED

MOBILITY CAMP at LEH-KARGIL (J & K)

Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust with support from Somedi Nettetal of Germany, Rotary Jaipur Limb project of UK, Shishukunj of UK and LDS Charities of U.S.A. had organized Mobility camps at Leh and Kargil in September, 2007.

During these camps in the picturesque hilly (12,000 feet above mean sea level) and strategically important towns the following aids/appliances were provided :

Free fitting of Callipers for Polio affected children
Free fitting of Jaipur Foot prosthetic to amputees. This includes the large number of landmine victims in the border areas
Free distribution of Wheelchairs and Crutches
Free distribution of appropriate Hearing Aids to the hearing impaired as per their audiology test reports(audiograms).
In addition to the above woollen garments were also distributed to the poor as per their sizes.

The humanitarian project received tremendous support from the Indian Army since it was a project for the local community.

A total of 539 beneficiaries availed of the free rehabilitation assistance. All are now mobile and able to lead near normal lives.

Of these nearly 140 children and adults received spanking new wheelchairs.

Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust had taken one of its fully equipped and manned Mobile Orthopaedic Vans from Mumbai.

Trained and experienced technicians in the van fitted Callipers and Jaipur foot prosthetics within a matter of a few hours.

It was an historic event as no such project has ever been implemented in these sensitive areas before.
